I wrote the lyrics for “Life’s a Beach” for a friend who is/was going through a tough time. The tender lyrics offer hope. I think they were written for myself too, as I feel lonely at times since Michael died. I think the words speak of the importance of connection. Humans are wired for connection and it’s OK to reach out. The words sounded like an early 70’s folk song – so Parker Redwood was imagined. I think he would have lived in the Pacific Northwest, and probably drove a Volkswagen van. I had fun making a 70s inspired album cover with my poncho. And the song definitely called for panpipes.

Life’s a Beach
When you feel like a lonely grain of sand washed out to sea
Remember life’s a beach
Where grains of sand find connection
I’m here, still within your reach
When you feel like a lonely grain of sand washed out to sea
Remember life’s a beach
I’ve laid a picnic out for you
It’s all here, still within your reach
When you feel like a lonely grain of sand washed out to sea
Remember life’s a beach
Follow the tide, and ride the wave back
Love, is still within your reach
I see you, lonely grain of sand washed out to sea
Before you disappear, read the postcard sent from me
Babe, I wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
With me
