Maisie and Pip

Here’s my Christmas card for 2024. It features my grandad’s teddy. Teddy actually came from Virginia and was given to my grandad in Alnwick, England, about 115 years ago by his uncle.

As a child, I was slightly obsessed with the book The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse, by Ursula Moray Williams. I never did have a little wooden horse, but I made myself the one in the picture when I was 40 something!

The sound of ABBA’s Like an Angel Passing Through My Room adds a wistful aspect to my Christmas card. At Christmas time I reflect on my parents’ and grandparents’ love for me as a child.

The first time I heard Constance Demby’s Eternal Return I cried. I was pulled into the musical undertow and felt waves of emotion with each crescendo. One day in September, the waves at Litchfield Beach were calling me with the same emotion. I felt the tug of the tide and felt a release in each crashing wave.
